Tigers Choose Ausmus As New Manager

DETROIT, Mich. (21 Alive) - 44 year old Brad Ausmus was given his first major league managing job Sunday when the Detroit Tigers announced him as the replacement for the now departed Jim Leyland.

Ausmus, whose only managerial experience was with the Israel team at the World Baseball Classic, has been a special assistant to the general manager of the San Diego Padres.

He conluded an 18 season major league career as a catcher in 2010.
