Reading Beats Komets To Even ECHL Playoff Series

Reading, Pennsylvania -- The Fort Wayne Komets fell 4 - 2 Saturday at Reading as the Royals evened the best - of - seven ECHL Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series at a game apiece.

Fort Wayne and Reading swapped goals in the first period. Sean Wiles put the Royals up 1 - 0 on the power play. The Komets answered with a sharp wrist shot from Shawn Szydlowski, his second of the series.

After a scoreless second period, Reading’s Brandon Blandina broke the tie with just over four minutes to play. Josh Brittain tallied his second of the playoffs at 18:51 after Komet goaltender Ben Meisner was pulled for an extra attacker. Nineteen seconds later Komet defenseman Jordon Southorn scored from the point at 19:10 to pull the Komets to within one again at 3 - 2. But, after the Komets pulled Meisner a second time, Reading’s Kevin Walrod found the empty net at 19:55, his second point of the night after dishing an assist on Blandina’s tally, to seal the 4 - 2 victory for Reading.

Game three of the series is Thursday night in Fort Wayne.
