WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (21 Alive) - Ricardo Allen made a game saving interception in the final seconds Saturday that preserved Purdue's 20-14 win over Indiana State and gave new coach Darrell Hazell his first win with the Boilermakers.
Akeem Hunt opened the game with a 99 yard kickoff return touchdown, but the Purdue offense struggled most of the rest of the way, getting into the end zone only one other time on a `17 yard run by tight end B.J. Knauf.
Indiana State erased most of a 17-0 deficit and trailed by six late when they mounted a drive that Allen blunted with his key defensive play.
Purdue, now 1-1, hosts Notre Dame next week in primetime.
Purdue safety Landon Feichter left the game during the first half with a leg injury. Reportedly a broken leg, Feichter's injury adds to two broken hands suffered in the offseason.
