DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (21 Alive) - For the first time since Dale Earnhardt was killed at the 2001 Daytona 500, the number 3 car will be in a Sprint Cup race and on the pole at that.

Rookie Austin Dillon, the grandson of team owner Richard Childress, drove the 3 car to the pole for next Sunday's Daytona 500, at a speed of 196.019 miles per hour.

Joining Dillon in the front row will be Martin Truex, Jr. who went 195.852 miles per hour in his run.

The rest of the starting positions will be determined in the two 125 mile qualifying races on Thursday.
