WILLIAMSBURG, Kent. (21 Alive) - Saint Francis had chances late to get back into the game, but Cumberlands' run game weathered the storm in the Cougars' 28-14 Saturday in an NAIA Football Championship Series Quarterfinal game.
The Cougars started the fourth with an interception by senior Taylor Brown. But after a 4-and-out by the USF offense, the Patriots ground game chewed up the clock to advance to the semifinals.
Cumberlands running back D'Angelo Jordan was selected as the offensive player-of-game after rattling off 270 yards rushing on 25 carries and a touchdown. The Patriots finished the game with 482 total yards with 390 of those coming on the ground.
Cougar sophomore Cody Appenzeller scored both touchdowns for USF.
USF's season ends at 9-3.
