FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne Komets) - The Komets announced Wednesday their ECHL schedule for 2014-15. The Komets' 63rd season of pro hockey in Fort Wayne begins on the road against the new Indianapolis Fuel Friday, Oct. 17. It will be the Fuel's debut at the 8,000 seat $63 million renovated Indianapolis Fairgrounds Coliseum and the first time the Komets have skated against an Indianapolis rival since April 16, 1999.
The Komets will host Indianapolis the following night, Saturday, Oct. 18 for Fort Wayne's home opener. It will mark the first Komet home opener against an Indianapolis team since the Ice won in a shootout 3-2 Oct. 10, 1998. The Komets are 5-1-2 in home openers against Indianapolis dating back to Oct. 18, 1955.
The 72-game ECHL schedule features 36 home and 36 road games. The Komets will present a total of 32 weekend and holiday games. Fort Wayne skates on Coliseum ice on 13 Saturdays, 10 Fridays, six Sundays, five Wednesdays, one Thursday and one Monday. Indianapolis will visit for the traditional holiday games Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. The 26-week regular season slate concludes when the Komets host Cincinnati Saturday, April 11.
"We are extremely pleased with our schedule, playing 32 of 36 games on the weekends and holidays and to open up against Indianapolis in a home and home series is icing on the cake," Komet President Michael Franke said. "We look forward to big announcements throughout the summer that will be fan friendly promotions combined with a very fan friendly schedule."
The Komets will face Kalamazoo the most at 15 meetings including a season-high nine at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo. The Fuel is a Fort Wayne foe 11 times followed by Evansville and Toledo with nine meetings each. The Komets will face Cincinnati on seven occasions. Kalamazoo, Indianapolis, Evansville and Toledo each visit a season-high six times. The Komets will visit Greenville for the first time ever for games Jan. 9 and 10. Fort Wayne's furthest trip from home will be Feb. 11 when they travel to Fort Myers, Florida for the only meeting of the season against the Everblades.
The Komets' longest home stand is a stretch of seven straight games from Feb. 18 to Mar. 6 and the longest road tour is six consecutive games Nov. 7 to Nov. 19. Fort Wayne will skate three games in three nights nine times and four games in five nights once during the season. The busiest month at home is February when the Komets host eight games including six in 11 nights from Feb. 18 to Feb. 28. Nine double-header home weekends are also included in the calendar.

Home start times-- 2014-15 Fort Wayne home games will start at 7:30pm Monday thru Thursday and Saturdays. Friday games faceoff at 8pm and Sunday games begin at 5pm.
