SOUTH WHITLEY, Ind. (21Alive) - The name at the top of the program may have changed in the offseason for Whitko High School's football team, but the landscape won't be all that different for the Wildcats.
Longtime assistant Josh Mohr was hired in February as new head coach. Mohr replaces Wayne Sender, who resigned in November
Familiar with the team and the players with him, Mohr says there will not be too many changes, just tweaks as two-a-days begin.
Congratulations to Coach Josh Mohr as he has been officially named the new Whitko Head Football Coach by the School Board tonight.— Whitko Athletics (@WhitkoAthletics) February 19, 2013
"We're going to do a little more option in our offense," Mohr says. "increase the level of aggressiveness and intensity in our play."
The Wildcats will have a new quarterback, senior Ethan Nicodemus, as their field general. Runningbacks Tanner Hughes, Kevin Gerding and Trace Killion return to the backfield and have experience through a lot of playing time as sophomores last season.
"it's just the kids buying into the system, setting goals and expectations that are higher, trying to get their level of play to increase," Mohr says.
Whitko starts with three road games (Aug. 23 at Wawasee, Aug. 30 at Columbia City and Sept. 6 at Southwood) before their home opener vs. Manchester on Sept. 13.
