BERNE, Ind. (21Alive) - South Adams High School had disappointing season in 2012.

The Starfires finished 2-8 overall, and winless in the Allen County Athletic Conference. South Adams averaged nine points a game on the season, too.

"We played a lot of young kids last year: eight sophmores and a freshman," new head coach Rick Burkhalter says. "Hopefully, we can bring that Friday night experience."

Burkhalter replaces Jason Arnold, who was elevated to athletic director. Burkhalter realizes there is a lot of work to do, and success going forward comes through prepration.

"I think they've had the willingness to win. I think it's about the willingness to prepare to win." "the weight room has been pushed. that atmosphere, mental toughness, that's what I'm trying to enstill."

South Adams opens with Winchester on Aug. 23, then travels to Bellmont before going through the rigors of the ACAC schedule.
