FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - South Side High School's football program has had losing records each of the last three season.
But head coach Eddie Fields says there have been signs of improvements in the offseason to where the Archers are looking to take the program up a notch in 2013.
"We went into the offseason, and Turn A Corner was our slogan," Field says. "We started low, and then, last year, we took a step up. This year, we expect to keep climbing that ladder to get to the top."
South Side has the benefit of many returning players, including Indiana football committ Donovan Clark. Clark is the on-field leader for the Archers, and understands his role in helping improve his teammates, too.
"It's an all-around attitude," Clark says. "Starting with our coach, and coming down to me as a player. Everything I do affects them. So, as long as I keep my morale up and keep working hard, I feel like they'll do the same."
South Side has a daunting schedule to begin the season, facing Bishop Dwenger, Bishop Luers and Snider in consecutive weeks.
"We make our move Game 1, and we have the chance to make some noise in the (Summit Athletic)conference."
Those games will not only show how far the Archers have come, but how far the Archers could go.
