Shafranov Joins Komets As Specialty Coach (VIDEO)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - Komets legend Konstantin Shafranov will return to the franchise as an assistant coach.

Shafranov, a former winger, joins Gary Graham's staff as a specialty coach.

Shafranov, 45, from Kazakhstan, played portions of six seasons with the Komets (1995-96, 1996-97, 1999-2000, 2007-2010). His 46 goals in 1995-96 earned him International Hockey League Rookie of the Year honors.

Shafranov also played for the Kazakh men's national hockey team most recently in the 2010 World Championships.

Shafranov was a 9th-round draft pick by the St. Louis Blues in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
