BOSTON (www.incnow.tv) - The Boston Celtics introduced Brad Stevens as their new head coach Friday morning.
The surprising hire came earlier in the week, as the Celtics lured Stevens away from Butler University, where he coached for six seasons.
"I am absolutely humbled to be sitting in this room and looking around me with the banners that hang," Stevens says. "I am very, as any young basketball fan was or is, just in awe of the Boston Celtics."
Danny Ainge, Celtics President of Basketball Operations, says Stevens was the first choice when the vacancy opened with the depature of Doc Rivers to the Los Angeles Clippers.
"Brad's success will be determined a lot by what we do," Ainge says. "What I do to help him and support him. What ownership does to support us. We've been through this type of rebuilding process before."
Stevens' deal is reported to be $22 million over six years. The Celtics did not disclose the terms of the contract, per franchise policies.
