FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Baer Field Speedway will celebrate its 50th season of racing when the track opens for the season on Saturday night.
The track is under new management with promoter John Raney; and new improvements, notably a 3/8-mile track, have been made at Baer Field, too.
"That will make it more competitive," Dean Cook, late model driver, says. "On the half-mile last year, we could only get 10 cars at a time; and they were spread out. You run it 3/8, it will make it closer.
But race organizers say the familiar half-mile track will not totally go away.
"On the nights when the sprints and super-modified and the outlaw late models are here, we'll go back to the half-mile," Bob Koorsen says.
Qualifying is at 5 p.m. Saturday. Races start at 7:30.
