FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – What starts as an attempted robbery, ends in a police standoff.

It was just before 10:30 Saturday morning, when the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) responded to a report of an armed robbery at the CVS Pharmacy in the 2800 block of E. State Blvd. on the corner of Beacon St.

Police say the suspect, Tonda D. Lampkin, approached the pharmacy counter and presented a note, saying she had a gun and demanded a prescription narcotic.

She then ran out to a nearby apartment complex to hide, causing the standoff to ensue.

FWPD had to call their Emergency Services and Crisis Response Teams to communicate with her.

Lampkin finally surrendered just after 1:30 p.m. and remains in police custody.

“Right now she's been transferred to a local hospital just for medical evaluation and the prosecuting attorney's office will determine if charges are going to be pursued,” said Officer Jason Anthony.

No injuries were reported, and the incident remains under investigation.
