VENTURA, CA. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – A girl scout who goes by the name “Taylor” published a YouTube video in which she asks the country not to purchase girl scout cookies after a Colorado troop accepted a 7-year-old transgender boy.
The boy, Bobby Montoya, was initially turned down by the Colorado group he attempted to join because had “boy parts.” Soon after their decision to not allow Bobby to join, the Girl Scouts of Colorado said that any child, who identifies as a girl and whose family presents the child as a girl, can join the girl scouts.
That decision led to the dissolution of three Louisiana-based troops. Now, a girl who spent a number of years as a Girl Scout is doing her part to make sure people across the country boycott Girl Scout cookies. She says the decision to allow Bobby into the troop creates safety concerns for Girl Scouts.
“For one reason, girl scouts describes itself as an all-girl experience. With that label, families trust that girls will be in an environment that's not only nurturing and sensitive to girls' needs, but also safe for girls.”
“Taylor” also says the Girl Scouts of the USA are not being honest with families because they have allowed other transgender members into the organization.
Near the end of the video, “Taylor” calls for a boycott of the cookies and says the group, “Honest Girl Scouts,” is alarmed with the choices made by Girl Scouts of the USA.
