FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Jeremiah Therkelson appeared in court Tuesday morning with his attorney asking the judge for bond. His next appearance is March 5th.
Feb. 10 Report
Police arrested a Fort Wayne man today for allegedly causing a horrific crash outside the Canterbury Green apartment complex Friday.
The case involves a 32-year old man.
According to court documents, Jeremiah Therkelsen told police he was trying to kill himself.
Those court papers show Therkelsen was in his wife's car when he sped up and slammed into a car in front of him, critically injuring that driver.
Police say as Therkelsen tried to run away from the crash, he broke the windshield of another car and ripped off one of the side-view mirrors.
He reportedly told police he was trying to kill himself after arguing with his wife... Saying, "I closed my eyes and put my foot on the gas."
When the investigating officer asked him when he stopped, Therkelsen reportedly said when he hit something: a car.
Court documents say Therkelsen also told the officer when the crash didn't kill him, he tried to jump in front of another car.
According to the officer, Therkelsen admitted he didn't try to help anyone who was injured, and that he didn't consider what impact his actions might have on other people.
The driver of the car police say Therkelsen rear-ended was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Therkelsen was also hurt but has been released.
The driver of the car that had a shattered windshield was not hurt.
Therkelsen is charged with felony criminal recklessness and felony leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
He's due back in court on Thursday.
