FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Ivy tech staff and students, celebrated survivors of domestic violence Wednesday night.

School leaders say about2,000 female students and 500 male students have experienced a domestic violence situation. They felt it was important to provide information for those students and also for those who might be exposed to a situation in the future.

Chris Garrett, Ivy Tech Domestic Violence Chair says, “We are training people to go into fields where they will see it such as law enforcement, nursing and it's important for them to know what to do and how to be able to respond when they have it in their careers.”

Officials say they will hold the event the last Wednesday in October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, every year.
