FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – Super heroes, zombies, and a sponge with square pants are just some of the many comics being handed out for "Free Comic Book Day."

Local stores opened their doors Saturday morning to dozens of collectors who are allowed to pick four free comic books of their choosing.

At Clem’s Collectibles, 4130 W. Jefferson Blvd. #M8, there were giveaways and door prizes, a raffle, games and artists signings. But Assistant Manager Ryan White says the main attraction: the limited edition comic books, of course.

"Every year on the first Saturday in May, all the major publishers release specially designed comics that we are given to give away to whoever comes into the store. It's designed to promote the art of reading, get people interested in comic books, and it usually coincides with a major film release, this week Iron Man,” he said.

More than four million comic books are expected to given away at the more than 2,000 locations participating nationwide.
