FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - Volunteers at St. Mary's Soup Kitchen are busy getting ready for their Thanksgiving feast. Each year they prepare turkey dinners for 1,500 people.
The volunteers have been working hard to prepare all week. Wednesday they were preparing the side dishes. All the turkeys are already cooked, and ready to be heated Thursday morning.
This takes hundreds of volunteers, and many of them give up part of their Thanksgiving holiday to spend it at the soup kitchen serving up meals to those in need. But the people who volunteer don't really see it that way, and are excited to be a part of it.
"We're all so blessed in this country and in this city that we need to help those that are a little less, not as well off as some of us are. So that's the main reason that I see help needed," said Dan Rondot, volunteer, St. Mary's Soup Kitchen.
They will start serving meals at 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving. The soup kitchen is located at 1101 Lafayette Street.
