FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- There may still be snow on the ground, but home improvement and garden centers are putting the final touches on their preparations for spring.

Home Depot, the world's largest home improvement retailer, is currently in the process of hiring 80,000 employees.

A manager at the Fort Wayne location, says they're still looking to hire 30 more people for their busy season.

But the owner of one local nursery says hiring was one thing she crossed off her list months ago.

"Once May hits, our whole facility really changes. There's flowers, plants, and everything. Right now, it's kind of a wasteland out there," said owner of Arbor Farms Nursery, Raquel Geller.

But Geller believes that wasteland will soon turn to a lot of hustle and bustle.

She adds, "People are looking for new plants to landscape their yards. I think this winter is going to be really hard on a lot of things. So we might see a few more people picking out new things."

Both businesses say their garden centers will be in full bloom near the end of April.
