STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Early Friday morning a Steuben County Sheriff’s Deputy and his K-9 partner arrested two men on drug charges during a traffic stop and then located more drugs in their hotel room.

Around 3:30 Friday morning Deputy Kline pulled over Joshua Hardy, 22, of Hamilton and Jesse Powell, 20, of Angola on SR 120 near the intersection of CR 50 W. During the stop Deputy Kline’s K-9, Kash alerted him of drugs in the car.

Kash and Deputy Kline discovered meth, marijuana, prescription pills, and paraphernalia within the car. Hardy had a gun and has an additional charge for possession.

When Powell was arrested he turned over a hotel key to be returned. When the hotel manager went to clear the room he alerted police that a strong chemical odor was in the room and should be checked.

When police searched the room they discovered the chemicals and items used in making meth.

Hardy is being held on a $32,500 preliminary bond while Powell is being held on a $40,000 preliminary bond, pending their initial hearing.
