FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- Some Fort Wayne residents claim a local bar is to blame for violence in their neighborhood, but the owner of Sports and Spirits refutes those accusations, saying he's not the bad seed.

However, the Fort Wayne Police Department has been called to Sports and Spirits an average of more than once a week for the past year.

They've responded to everything from batteries to narcotics investigations to fights to armed people to robberies to shots fired and shootings.

And neighbor Michah Robinson says the neighborhood has had enough. He says his brother was jumped and beaten up there two years ago.

"It's violent. That bar, gang members, lot of people coming from different areas come over to Sports and Spirits, because that's their main spot. So it's fights, it's shootings. Whatever he says, that's his opinion. But my opinion is, it's too much trouble because of that bar," Robinson says.

The owner of Sports and Spirits says he's invested money in new siding, lighting and other security measures, and insists his bar, which has existed in the neighborhood in some form or another since 1912, is not the source of recent shootings in the area.

But neighbors say they're going to band together and start a petition to get the place closed down.
