FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – Community members gather to honor the life of Trayvon Martin and bring awareness to protecting youth.

Honoring the life of Trayvon Martin is what the Building Bridges to a Better Community (BBBC) organization did Saturday afternoon. They gathered at the Allen County Courthouse lawn for a peaceful demonstration in honor of the 17-year old boy who was shot and killed in Feb. 2012.

The demonstration comes just one week after George Zimmerman was acquitted by a jury in the death of Martin.

The case gained national attention, sparking debate over race and Florida’s Stand Your Ground law.

The group came together to honor the life of Martin, but to also to spread the message that we, as a nation, need to protect our youth.

“Trayvon could be anyone,” said Domini Martin who attended Saturday’s demonstration. “Trayvon could be my 16-year-old little brother and it's our duty as Americans to make sure that we live in a world where it is safe for all of our children regardless of race or ethnicity or language they speak.”

“Wherever we are we need to be about trying to help our youth, protect our youth, provide for them good guidance and prepare them for what we hope will be a future. If we don't prepare them we are not going to have a future. We got to prepare and protect, said Condra Ridley, who also attended the demonstration.

Demonstrations in honor of Martin took place all over the country Saturday. Organizers are calling it “National Justice for Trayvon Day.”
