OSSIAN, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) -- Quick thinking by one local district caught in the midst of extremely high winds Wednesday afternoon prevented injury to dozens of students.
Northern Wells Community Schools had just released for the day when some very strong cells were moving through the Ossian area prompting a tornado warning.
District officials ordered buses still transporting students back to the school in which they were closest rushing the students inside for cover.
Superintendent Scott Mills of Northern Wells Community Schools says, “Student safety is our utmost goal so anytime we are put in a situation we are just thinking safety first, communications with parents second. And that is one of the areas that we will try and work on, trying to communicate with parents quicker.”
