FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Fort Wayne Police are investigating a shooting in the Kern Valley Farm neighborhood.

The victim was identified Monday by the Allen County Coroner as Demetrius Masterson, 29. The cause of death was gunshot wounds and this has been ruled as the 42nd homicide for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2013.

According to FWPD spokesperson Michael Joyner, the Masterson's girlfriend returned home around 7:40 p.m. Sunday to the 7400 block of Placer Run on the city's northeast side, and found her boyfriend deceased.

Police say they found no one else inside the home or anything that indicated a possible suicide.

Witnesses say they heard a "pop" in the area earlier Sunday evening. Other witness reports say they saw an SUV or box-style vehicle leaving the area, but officers say those reports are been conflicting.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
