NEW YORK (21Alive) – Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead Sunday in his New York City apartment, according to New York City Police.
Police say a concerned friend found Hoffman in his bathroom, fully clothed.
When police arrived, they found Hoffman still had a syringe in his arm. Bags believed to contain heroin were also found.
Hoffman, 46, won the Academy Award for Best Actor for 2005's "Capote," and was most recently seen in the "Hunger Games" sequel, "Catching Fire."
Hoffman was nominated for Oscars three other times, including for 2012's "The Master."
Hoffman is succeeded by his girlfriend, costume designer Mimi O’Donnell, their son, Cooper and two daughters, Tallulah and Willa.
