Allen County, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - The suspect who got away after a shooting at a gun store turns himself in Wednesday night. He was wanted in connection with an apparent robbery attempt at Shooters Guns along Lincoln Hwy in New Haven.
Brenton Ennis, 18, escaped after the vehicle he was in, with three others, crashed into another car at McKinney and Anthony. Ennis turned himself in Wednesday night and is charged with robbery and resisting law enforcement.
According to police, the three males arrested Tuesday were Orlando L. Paschall, Craig D. Whigum, and a 15-year-old juvenile.
On Tuesday, two armed black male suspects entered Shooters Guns and began making demands just after 11 a.m. Two customers were injured during the altercation, one of which received minor injuries to the face. That victim was transported to a local hospital.
The two suspects then fled the gun store into a waiting dark blue Chevy Impala which contained two additional black male suspects. A number of guns were reportedly stolen in the robbery but all were recovered except for one when the Impala crashed into another car at McKinney and Anthony after a short police pursuit by county police officers.
After the crash, Ennis exited the car and fled on foot. Three suspects remained behind and were caught and taken into custody.
Officer Scott Adam with the New Haven Police Department says it is rare to see a robbery involving gun shots around the lunch hour in New Haven.
“In this manner, we haven't had anything like that out here. He's been burglarized a couple times during night hours over the years but never a robbery where there's been shots fired… It doesn't happen very often out here and to have something like this, it's kind of tragic for our community.”
Fort Wayne Community Schools took immediate safety measures and placed seven schools on lockdown as police search for the robbery suspect. Around 1:30 p.m. the seven schools were taken off of official lockdown. However, students will not be allowed to go outside for recess or other activities, and at dismissal they will have additional safety measures in place.
We continue to gather information and will have more as details are confirmed.
