FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – Burlington announced Monday that they’ll be opening another location on Fort Wayne’s north side, bringing 50 to 60 jobs with it.

Burlington is an off-price retail store offering merchandise for 65 percent off department store prices. Store manager Tracy Cummings says they’re looking to hire 50 to 60 sales associates and plan to hold a job fair.

“We’re expecting at least 300-400 people applying,” said Cummings.

The job fair will be held Aug. 20 and 21 at the Courtyard Marriott on Washington Center Rd. Cummings says applicants will be given an interview time via email after applying online.

Burlington already has one location on Fort Wayne’s southwest side on Illinois Road. The new store will be opening on the city’s north side taking over the old Steve & Barry’s storefront in Glenbrook Commons. That’s located on the corner of Lima Rd. and Coliseum Blvd., and area where business hasn’t been flourishing in recent years. But Cummings says after conducting three to four years of research in the area, store officials finally settled on that location. She says they want to cater to that side of town, and they’re not worried about business suffering.

"We do try to pick up older buildings. We're not building anything new, we want to help the community out, and also contribute to the area and what's surrounding it to try and bring more business onto this side. So if we come over here, others will come as well,” said Cummings.

Cummings says the 500,000 sq. ft. store will have a completely different layout from the Illinois Rd. store, and be modeled after a department store. She says there will be new fixtures and departments will be color coded making them easier to locate in the store.

Cummings says store officials are planning “Burlington Charity Day” the Thursday before their grand opening in October. People will go shopping in order to raise money for a charity.

“It’s kind of like a VIP. We partner with non-profit organizations who will sell their passes and whatever profit they make will go strictly to them,” she said.

They’ll also host “Burlington Gives Back,” a partnership with a national non-profit organization where the store will have away clothing, baby items, home goods, and other merchandise to local families in need.

The official store opening will be October 13, 2013.
