FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- Fort Wayne Police are continuing to investigate an explosion that happened at a local apartment complex Sunday night.
Police say the man inside, Robert Erb, had bomb making materials. Erb is now recovering at a local hospital. Tuesday some of his friends and neighbors spoke to Indiana’s NewsCenter and explained Erb was a great person and neighbor.
"He was a cool person, just laid back, kept to himself," said Anthony Williams, Erb's Neighbor.
Another one of Erb’s friends who wanted to remain anonymous said Erb would build rockets with his son and they even went to competitions together. She says that's what she thinks caused the explosion.
She also says he was always willing to help his neighbors out and ran his own mechanic business.
"He wasn't nothing out of the ordinary over there, he was just living his life,” said Williams.
"We haven't had much trouble out of him at all. In fact, this in kind of a surprise,” said Maynard Scales, Executive Director, Fort Wayne Housing Authority.
Scales says right now Erb will be allowed to continue living at the apartment complex. He says he wants to let the police do their job before he takes any action. He does say if there is a threat to the community Erb will have to leave.
"We're just not sure and we don't want to rush to judgment and let the police find out the facts,” said Scales.
Erb has been living in the River Cove apartments for 5 years.
