FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21 Alive) -- The woman who police say told them she threw her 3-week-old baby girl against a wall because the baby wouldn't stop crying, appeared in court Tuesday.

28-year-old Ashley Strong's two-day jury trial will begin June 24th.

Jan. 31 Report
A Fort Wayne woman has admitted to throwing her baby against a wall and now faces felony charges.

28-year-old Ashley Strong told police she did it because her three-week-old wouldn't stop crying.

On January 10th police went to Colony Bay Apartments on a call of a dropped child.

Strong first said she was sleeping with her three-year-old and three-week-old daughters when she woke up to the baby crying on the floor.

Police say strong told them the incident happened before 12:03 p.m.

When she gave police permission to search her cell phone, they learned she didn't call for help until 12:40 p.m, nearly 40 minutes later.

Strong told authorities she changed the baby's diaper and gave her a bath before calling for help.

When asked again why she waited so long, strong said she hadn't slept for two to three days and couldn't get the baby to stop crying.

Officers say after telling them two different stories, strong then admitted she threw the baby down against the wall, and the baby's head hit the wall and landed on the bed.

Records show the baby suffered a skull fracture and brain bleed and was listed in critical condition.

A drug screen showed Ashley strong testing positive for cocaine.
Strong faces two class B-felonies for battery and neglect of a dependent, and a class D-felony neglect of a dependent.

We have no update on the infant's condition at this time.
