Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - The Internet is something many of today's college students have never lived without.

In the wake of the Manti Te’o girlfriend hoax we spoke with some local students about communicating via cyber space. We also asked them what they think about the hoax.

"I think that at first it was a scam and then he found out about it, and then he went along with it just for the publicity and cause he did have a title to keep up with himself,” said Phoebe Davis, USF Student.

"I mean things like that can happen he's just, popular. He's number one linebacker, he's coming out and I mean the target was on him. I mean it can happen to any of us,” said Koree Terrell, USF Student.

The students we spoke with say the ways they avoid being scammed online is by making sure they have a connection of some sort with the person. They make sure they have mutual friends or are part of the same network, such as the same university or the same city/state.
