Man Drives Drunk, Beats Girlfriend, Crashes Car

INDIANAPOLIS (21Alive) – An Indianapolis man is in jail after beating a woman while driving drunk, crashing his car, and trying to run away.

Police say Lawrence Gillim, 59, was driving in Johnson County when he began beating his girlfriend who was trying to get out of the car. Gillim then crashed the vehicle into two parked cars.

Witnesses say they saw the girlfriend get out and fall over, with injuries severe enough to incapacitate her. Gillim then got out, saw the witnesses dialing 911, and ran off into the woods.

Gillim was found by a K-9 unit. He is facing up to eight charges: operating while intoxicated, operating while intoxicated causing endangerment, operating while intoxicated causing injury, domestic battery, leaving the scene of an accident causing injury, resisting law enforcement, criminal confinement and criminal recklessness with a vehicle.
