FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - Small Business Saturday may be long gone, but sales are still strong for many local shops.

The owner of Olive Twist says each day their sales are at or above last years. When asked what the key to surviving today as a small business is, she said it's key to be there for your customers, and build trust.

"I think customer service is number one. You know, the customer wants to be taken care of. The other thing is, a big box store, they're not going to special order something in just for one customer," said Lori Berndt, President/Owner, Olive Twist.

Another way Olive Twist attracts customers is by partnering up with other local companies. Recently, Olive Twist teamed up with DeBrand Fine Chocolates to make three unique chocolates, with olive oils from Olive Twist.

The president of Bradley Gough Diamonds also says, it's all about building relationships with people in the community, and catering to customers.

"Carrying brands that people can't find anywhere else. Brands that they might have to go to New York or Chicago or California to find. It's here in Fort Wayne. We actually bring them here to Fort Wayne," said Jennifer Brubaker, President, Bradley Gough Diamonds.

Many local businesses credit events like Holly Pop, and Small Business Saturday with helping boost sales.
