FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – The 28th Annual Gingerbread Festival kicked off at the History Center.

Hansel and Gretel won't be able to resist themselves after seeing the houses in downtown Fort Wayne—gingerbread houses, that is!

This weekend, 149 gingerbread houses were entered into 10 different categories ranging from Pre-K all the way to a family group.

Houses of all shapes and sizes with plenty of lighting and extra goodies adorned the tables. Winners were proud of their work, especially with all that goes into the project.

"It took about twelve days on and off and it's all edible, it's all gingerbread except for the lights and the base. It took a long time but it was a lot of fun,” said Jennifer Spurgeon who won first place in the Adult Individual group.

Prizes were awarded for the best houses and a ceremony followed hosting creators and their families.
