FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - A 14-year-old girl was knocked unconscious and hospitalized after reportedly fighting with a boy over an iPod.
The 14-year-boy was taken to the Allen County Juvenile Center and is being charged with battery. The girl was transported to a hospital in fair condition. Both are 8th grade students at Lane Middle School.
According to a police report, Fort Wayne Police responded to an EMS call from a Fort Wayne Community Schools bus just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. The driver reported a fight between a girl and 14-year-old boy. The bus driver claimed he tried to stop the fight, but was unsuccessful.
When responders approached Bus 332 on Reed Road and Mediera Drive, they found a girl unconscious in a seat. Witnesses in the report said the boy slammed the girl's head against a window and held her in a choke hold until she passed out. Paramedics treated the girl on the scene and she eventually regained consciousness. The girl was transported to a local hospital. The boy was immediately escorted off the bus by police in handcuffs and taken to a juvenile facility.
The two students reportedly have a history, and the boy admitted to police that they "used to be close friends."
FWPD continues to investigate the incident.
Indiana's NewsCenter asked Fort Wayne Community Schools for a statement, but they refused to comment.
