FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Thanksgiving's not until Thursday, but through some collaborative efforts, a community had something to be thankful for Monday night.

Families at Brookmill Courts Apartments say they're thankful for the thanksgiving feast they were given Monday night.

The Boys & Girls Club of Fort Wayne partnered with the Fort Wayne Housing Authority and served a traditional Thanksgiving dinner—including turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, corn, and a dinner roll—all garnished with a dozen different pies for dessert.

All the food was donated and by Community Harvest Food Bank and Ceruti’s,

Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Joe Jordan says it was a great time for the organizations and businesses to collaborate and emphasize the true meaning of the holiday—giving.
"I said, ‘we need to celebrate this more’ and make sure the children who may not have the opportunity to have a traditional Thanksgiving meal, [make sure] that we have an opportunity to provide that for them,” said Jordan.

"I think that more people should take time to think of others, be more considerate around the Holiday time because a lot of people don't get to eat, and everybody is not fortunate enough to have Thanksgiving dinner. So this is really a blessing for us around here at Brookmill,” said resident Yvette King.

Brookmill Courts is one of two Boys & Girls Club sites. The other is McCormick Place Apartments, where they'll be serving another Thanksgiving dinner Tuesday night from 5 – 7 p.m.
