FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- A Fort Wayne Community School Board member lands in trouble with the law.

Kevin Brown was arrested early Tuesday on a variety of motor vehicle charges, including operating while intoxicated.

Brown was also charged with operating a vehicle without proper registration, driving while suspended, and operating the vehicle without insurance.

According to a police report, the 53-year old Brown, who began serving as the District 4 representative on the FWCS board in 2007, was pulled over after 2:30 a.m. on State Road 930 in New Haven.

Police say he tested .10, which is above the legal limit.

Brown told the officer he had a couple of beers beginning at 9-30 Monday night, shortly after a school board meeting concluded.

We visited Brown's home seeking comment, but nobody came to the door.

It's noteworthy that Brown proposed a variation of an ethics policy for board members at the meeting, hours before being pulled over.

Board President Mark Giaquinta said the board would not try and force Brown to resign.

Mark Giaquinta/FWCS Board President: " He exercised poor judgment, it's up to him to decide personally, whether he should continue on with the board and certainly the voters will make a decision in six weeks. My bigger issue is Kevin's ineffectiveness as a board member. I mean, in four years he has not pulled his weight on the board."

Giaquinta specifically cited the fact the board enacted a policy change some time back, limiting each board member to one out of state trip per year.

Giaquinta says that change came about because Kevin Brown during one year had spent $14,000, or half the board’s annual travel budget all by himself.

Brown had a previous drunk driving arrest dating back to 2001, a misdemeanor charge.

Brown has four opponents in his bid to get re-elected November 2nd.
