FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – The Fort Wayne Chapter of the NAACP is taking a stand, this time on a local injustice.
Local NAACP members, area pastors and Mayor Tom Henry held a prayer rally on the Allen County Courthouse Green Saturday.
They rallied in hopes of gaining support against Fort Wayne City Council's actions to eliminate collective bargaining.
Last month, council passed an ordinance that would get rid of negotiating rights for all non-public safety city union workers. The vote passed 7 to 2, with Democratic Councilman John Shoaff casting a "reconsideration vote".
Council is supposed to hold another discussion on the matter Tuesday and potentially pass the ordinance again. That gives Mayor Henry up to 10 days to veto the bill. Council will need a 6 to 3 vote to override the Mayor's veto.
