WASHINGTON (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Federal subsidies for ethanol will stay in place after a measure to end the program failed to get enough votes in the Senate.
The subsidy costs taxpayers an estimated $5 billion a year.
Indiana Senator Dan Coats voted against ending the measure.
The current ethanol tax credit is set to expire at the end of the year.
Other votes on the issue are expected next week in the Senate.
