FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Parkview Field hosted the fourth annual Docs v. Suits charity softball game Sunday evening.
21Alive Sports Director Tommy Schoegler played on the “suits” side.
The game raises money for scholarships and programs at the IPFW School of Medicine.
The money raised is also used to enhance the curriculum at the school, as past proceeds have gone to new technology in the anatomy course, and simulation exercises that allow students to experience diagnosing and treating illnesses without the threat of harming a patient.
"A big part is to help our community to have more young physicians, and so a big part of this is trying to support our students who are going to be practicing in Fort Wayne in the future,” said Fenlei Chang, Director of IPFW’s School of Medicine.
Chang says events like this are important to IPFW as about 90 percent of the graduates from the school of medicine have student loan debt averaging about $170,000.
