FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- The Allen County Circuit Court has partnered up with the Allen County Prosecutor's Office and Work One to give unemployed parents a chance to get a job.

“The Work One program started, as we along with the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and Karen Richards, were trying to find solutions for people who have child support obligations, but have been unwilling to keep up or pay in full those obligations,” Allen County Circuit Court Magistrate Andrea Trevino said.

The brand new program, which began in November of 2013, has seen successful since its first launch.

The program is filled with opportunities for parents who may be at different places in their lives.

"Work One offers workshops that are geared resumed development, resume critique, computer skill training, interview training, kind of runs the gamut. They also have programs for felons, kind of help them with resources once they've got a felony on the record, they partner up with Anthis Career Center and do an educational component, and they also partner up and do vocational rehabilitation services."

More than 100 people have been enrolled in this program since November, and since then data has been collected on 77 people. Of those 77 people, more than 41-percent now have jobs.

More than 20-percent are working on a GED and another 20 percent are working with vocational rehabilitation.

Trevino says that as long as individuals within the work one program are putting forth their best effort, they will avoid jail time.

"If people show me they are making their best efforts, they're going to the classes, they're making an effort towards getting their education, it keeps them out of jail longer, and shows me that they truly are making efforts and there’s a checks and balances system in place."
