FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- We are all familiar with many benefits from cell phones.

A woman in Fort Wayne used hers to bring a suspected sexual predator into police custody.

FWPD officers say it was quick thinking by the victim, and another example of how technology can keep you safer.

In the crime, a Glenbrook Mall employee was sexually assaulted, but she was able to summon police using her phone keypad.

26-year old Aaron Prater from Warsaw appeared in Allen County felony court Friday.

A preliminary plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.

He's asking for a public defender.

Last week, police say Prater forced his way into the car of the female mall employee at gunpoint, and made her perform sex acts in the parking lot.

But police say she was able to dial 911, and by virtue of what dispatchers heard on the open line, they used GPS to pinpoint the location, responded, and arrested Prater at the scene.

A patrol officer tracked Prater down in a foot chase, but it wouldn’t have happened without the actions of the victim.

Officer Mike Joyner/Fort Wayne Police Department: " Equally important is that this young lady kept her senses, knowing full well of the capability of her phone, and the GPS technology, she did the right thing by dialing 911, which gave us the ability to locate her."

Police found a weapon used in the crime, which turned out to be a BB gun.

Prater is due back in court on July 13th.

This was not his first run-in with the law.

He was arrested last fall after soliciting a prostitute that turned out to be an undercover officer.
