Ball State Bans Smoking (VIDEO)

MUNCIE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – Ball State University's Board of Trustees voted Friday afternoon to ban smoking on campus, even in designated outdoor smoking areas.

The ban goes into effect on August 1.

According to the Muncie Star Press, the new policy will allow people to smoke in their cars, as long as the windows are rolled up.

In 1998, smoking was eliminated from all buildings on campus. In 2004, smoking was banned within 30 ft. of the entrances to campus buildings. In 2008, outdoor smoking was limited to designated smoking areas.

The article says about 15 percent of Ball State Students and 24 percent of employees are smokers.
