FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – It may seem like Allen County is on pace to break the previous record number of homicides in one year, but authorities say the number is only average.

Allen County had reached its record number in 1997, with 42 homicides. But according to the Journal Gazette, this year's numbers are deceiving—deceiving because homicides that are deemed justifiable, or in self-defense, aren't reported to the FBI.

The report says seven of Fort Wayne’s 22 homicides this year have been ruled as justifiable. Without those seven, authorities say the homicide total and homicide rate for this year is pretty average, and considered low compared to similar-sized cities.
