FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- "You created your own war zone."

Allen County Judge John Surbeck made those comments to Dontay Martin Monday, before sentencing the man to 170 years for firing shots at a Fort Wayne ambulance loaded with people.

Prosecutors said Dontay Martin acted like he was at the "OK Corral", and that his behavior was “beyond outrageous”.

Judge Surbeck said Martin had effectively terrorized the community.

Back in December, a city ambulance transporting a stabbing victim from Piere's Nightclub was peppered with bullets.

A medic riding in the back of the ambulance was hit with shell fragments.

Evidence at trial showed that Martin fired 20 rounds at the ambulance and at a trailing vehicle, apparently trying to get back at Jermaine Loyall, who he had been fighting with at the nightclub.

Co-defendant Traneilous Jackson, who fired more than 15 shots, pleaded guilty and got a reduced sentence of 60 years in exchange for his testimony against Martin.

" Frankly, the community, both Allen County and Fort Wayne, are safer because of it, because these people were dangerous, they're the most dangerous people we have here," said Allen County Deputy Prosecutor Jason Custer.

" If two people can sell out the third person, there has to be an injustice and the due process of law needs to look into that, I mean, if one person gets 170, the others should get 170," said Willie Amos, a cousin of Dontay Martin.

Alfonso Chappell, the driver of the car that Martin and Jackson were riding in, claims he only took part because he feared for his own safety if he didn't.

He testified against Martin at trial, and was never charged.

Martin still maintains he is innocent, and he plans to appeal his conviction and sentence.
