FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21 Alive) -- When you're a rookie, it doesn't always mean you can't take one home for the team, especially when it involves food.
A local food truck is competing against food trucks all around the country to win the title of “Food Truck Rookie of the Year.”
Rig-A-Tony's owned and operated by Tony Fumarolo, is one of the trucks listed in the top ten of this year’s contest.
The truck opened up in August of 2013 when Fumarolo wanted to recreate his grandmother's best dishes.
The goal is to offer more of a gourmet food experience rather than a typical hamburger and fries meal.
The food truck has a menu that changes daily with special features throughout the week.
Classic Italian dishes are what customers can find there with anything from meatball subs to pasta dishes.
Food trucks have become more and more popular in the Fort Wayne area and Rig-A-Tony's says the support is overwhelming.
“It's amazing the support that we've gotten from the community and I think that's really cool that people are supporting local businesses. The food truck scene is much bigger here than you'd think for the population size, obviously it's bigger in big cities, but it's really cool that Fort Wayne has embraced it and we love it,” Fumarolo said.
The businesses have to have the highest amount of votes in order to win, and you can vote for Rig-A-Tony's by going to mobilecuisine.com, voting goes until midnight of January 24th.
