FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - It's judgment day for a man who admitted to abducting and sexually assaulting a Fort Wayne child back in 2003.
38-year-old Dorris Merriweather III was sentenced Friday to 75-years for attempted murder and two counts of child molesting.
In pleading guilty last month, he admitted to kidnapping a five-year-old girl from her home, molesting her and leaving her for dead in a wooded area.
Deputy Prosecutor Stacey Speith says, “The family was very relieved that they finally had some closure. This has been seven years that they've been waiting, not knowing who the perpetrator was and so they were very relieved and that they finally have some closure, the victim particularly."
The 75-year sentence will be served in addition to a 45-year sentence Merriweather was given before for sexually assaulting a different girl in 2007 and 2008.
