WASHINGTON, DC (www.incnow.tv) - United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice withdrew her name from consideration to be America's next secretary of state.

The ambassador was considered a favorite to succeed Secretary Hillary Clinton, but controversy overshadowed her candidacy, after she initially characterized the deadly attacks on a U.S. consulate in Libya as a spontaneous response to an anti-Muslim film.

An official close to the process told NBC's Andrea Mitchell that Senator John Kerry is now almost certain to follow Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.
