UNITED STATES (www.incnow.tv) -- Obamacare mandates will cause the insurance premiums for individuals to spike 72% and those in small group plans will see an 8% increase, according to the state's Insurance Department.
The increases are primarily due to a requirement that insurance companies cover those with per-existing conditions and to offer a minimum level of benefits.
New taxes and fees under the law are also to blame. The average cost for an individual plan will go from $255 a month to $570 a month when the law goes fully into effect.
The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services disputes the state's statistics, saying the insurance department's scenario is an unrealistic.
HHS says Indiana's insurance department's numbers are an average across all plans, framed in a option not available for consumers.
