FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – Firefighters battle a blaze at a local church early New Year’s Eve morning.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) was busy New Year’s Eve morning tackling a challenging fire in a large church on the city’s northeast side.
Crews were called to the Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church on Maysville Rd. just after 12:45 a.m. Monday.
Fire officials say a building alarm was set off inside the church. When first responders arrived on scene, they noticed flames through the windows of the church’s sanctuary. Fire officials called in extra help trying to work to contain the blaze to one room. The fire was under control shortly after 1:30 a.m.
One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. The cause is still unknown, although a church spokesperson told INC News that the security alarm initially went off. They suspect that may provide a clue as to how the fire was started. FWFD is concluding their investigation and will release their findings within a week.
