Edward Snowden: Patriot Or Traitor?

June 13, 2013 Updated Jun 13, 2013 at 10:07 AM EDT

UNITED STATES (www.incnow.tv) -- According to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, nearly one third of Americans believe Edward Snowden, U.S. surveillance activity whistle blower, is a patriot, not a traitor.

The poll results showed that 23 percent said 29-year-old Snowden is a traitor, while 31 percent called him a patriot and nearly half of respondents said they did not know under which classification Snowden should fall.

Morning reports say that U.S. intelligence officials are fearful that Snowden will defect to China, taking with him all of America's most sensitive secrets that he's had access to through his mysterious career. Because of this, officials are treating this case as a possible foreign espionage matter.

Snowden alarmed intelligence officials when he told Hong Kong's South China Morning Post that his country "had been hacking into computers in Hong Kong and [in China] for years."

The online survey of 645 Americans showed that 35 percent believed Snowden should not face charges, while 25 percent thought he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
